Marilyn Knox, age 67, of Norwalk, was charged on Wednesday, Aug. 30, for stealing money while employed at Brien McMahon High School.
According to Lt. Tomasz Podgorski, of the Norwalk Police, on Tuesday, June 20, the Norwalk Public Schools contacted the Norwalk Police Department regarding a previously employed staff member who committed thefts over an extended period of time.
An investigation by the Detective Bureau revealed that Knox, who was working as a bookkeeper, stole $35,924.10 between July 2021 and Jan. 2023 from the Brien McMahon High School student athletic fund, Podgorski said.
The stolen money was found to have been used for personal expenses, he added.
Knox was terminated from Brien McMahon when the discovery was made during the school’s in-house investigation.
She was charged with first-degree larceny and held on a $50,000 bond.
Knox is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Sept. 11.
